History and things to know
According to shrine tradition, the grave of Sarumaru Dayū, said to have been in 曽束荘 in Tsuzuki District, Yamashiro Province, was moved near the present site in the early Edo period after a boundary dispute, and the building of a shrine at his mausoleum is said to be its origin. An ema (votive tablet) of Shōhō 2 (1645) records that the parishioners of the Zenjōji district built the shrine building.
