History and things to know
According to the temple's tradition, after many people died in a heavy snowfall in Kōan 1 (1361), the provincial governor built a founder's hall to pray for peace in the land, and 吉祥坊慶誉 became its founder. After falling into decline, a Kannon hall was built in Tenbun 13 (1544) to enshrine a Jūichimen Kannon that had washed up here, and when the main hall was rebuilt in Bunroku 2 (1593) the temple is said to have taken its present name.
