History and things to know
According to the official guide, its origin is said to be a temple opened by Nichizui Shōnin in Bunmei 19 (1487) in what is now Sakura, Chiba Prefecture. A mission station was set up in Kamaishi in Meiji 25, and in Meiji 40 the Reverend Hosono Renshin transferred the temple name and built the temple at its present site. In Shōwa 44 its main hall and kuri (priests' quarters) were newly built.
