History and things to know

According to shrine tradition, Shikina-gū and the temple 神応寺 were built after the eldest son of King Shō Gen recovered from illness. The shrine building originally stood inside a cave, but was moved outside the cave in 1680. After it burned in the war, the shrine building was rebuilt in Shōwa 43.
