History and things to know
According to temple tradition, the temple regards as its founding the building of Hōden-ji by its founder 祐真 in Keichō 17 (1612) and its move to Shimizudani in Kōjimachi in Genna 3 (1617). It was renamed Shin'ei-ji in Jōō 3 (1654), and after moving to various places it built its halls on the present site in Tenpō 13 (1842). The main hall, which burned in the air raids, was rebuilt in Shōwa 53 (1978).
