History and things to know

According to temple tradition, it was founded in Genna 2 by the priest Shingyō and was originally one of the sub-temples of Matsudaira Saifuku-ji, across the street, at Surugadai in Edo. In Kan'ei 15 (1638) it moved to present-day Kuramae together with Saifuku-ji. After burning in the Great Tokyo Air Raid, it received its principal image, the statue of Amida Nyorai, from Tokugan-ji in Gyōtoku in Shōwa 22, and the present main hall was built in Heisei 29.
