History and things to know

According to the official guide, in Meitoku 1 (1390) Taihaku Shingen became its founding priest with Toki Mitsuyasu as patron, and Daijusan Sōfuku-ji was established. It later fell into ruin, but in Eishō 8 (1511) 斎藤利匡 restored it, invited Dokushū Kensai as its founding priest and converted it to the Myōshin-ji school. Oda Nobunaga made this temple his family temple soon after entering Gifu.
