History and things to know

According to the temple's tradition, it was founded by the priest 良恩 in Daiei 2 (1522). It is said that Wakamatsu Kii no Kami, lord of Yumoto village, who became a follower of the priest as he preached at a hot-spring inn, built the temple and donated it. It lost its halls to a fire in the Edo period and in the Boshin War, and the present main hall was rebuilt in Meiji 10.
