History and things to know

According to shrine tradition, this is regarded as a site where Empress Jingū stayed on her way back, and Hachiman was invited here in the Jōgan era. Later it became an estate of Iwashimizu Hachimangū, was called "the branch shrine (bekkū) of Suda," and flourished as the clan shrine of the Suda band. The shrine buildings burned and were rebuilt several times; the present buildings were rebuilt in Bunsei 5.
