History and things to know
According to shrine tradition, it began when a divided spirit was received through the connection of offering the season's first catch to the main Suwa shrine in Shinano. Each time its land was lost to rough waves it was re-established; it moved to its present site in Meiji 6, and in Shōwa 7 it was combined with Hiyoshi Sha and renamed Suwa Jinja.
