History and things to know
According to shrine tradition, the origin of the shrine is not known in detail; it is said that Tenazuchi no Kami governed the hill of Tenaga from long ago and, after Takeminakata no Kami arrived, worked together with him to build the land of Suwa. A Kamakura-period document of kagura songs mentions it as "guardian of Shimokuwabara", and the worship hall was built in Tenmei 8 (1788) by the Suwa master carpenter Tatekawa Washirō Tomimune.
