History and things to know

According to shrine tradition, it was founded in the reign of Emperor Kinmei; it is said that a mikoshi being carried across the sea at a festival of Suzuka-gō in Ise was swept away by a storm and came ashore here, and the villagers enshrined it as Suzuka Daimyōjin. In Kōji 2, Susanoo no Mikoto from Gion Yasaka Jinja in Kyoto was enshrined together with it, and in Meiji 2 it was ranked as a district shrine (gōsha).
