History and things to know

According to the shrine's tradition, the date of its founding is unclear; it is said to have been built by the Andō clan, a powerful family that ruled this area in the medieval period. It is said that when the Akō domain was abolished in Genroku 14, the spirit-object (mitamashiro) of the Inari deity in Akō Castle was carried to Tsugaru, and later, following a divine message, it was moved to this place, Takayama, and enshrined.
