Enshrined kami: Yamato Takeru no Mikoto and Ōnamuchi no Mikoto
History and things to know
According to the shrine's tradition, it began in the 46th year of Emperor Keikō, when shrine buildings were built to worship Yamato Takeru no Mikoto at Takebe in Kanzaki District, where his consort and child lived; in the time of Emperor Tenmu it moved to Seta, and since welcoming Ōnamuchi no Mikoto from Ōmiwa Jinja it has been revered as the ichinomiya of Ōmi. The Heiji Monogatari records that Minamoto no Yoritomo, when captured by the Taira, visited the shrine to pray for his future, and that after restoring the Minamoto he donated sacred treasures and shrine lands.
