History and things to know
According to temple tradition, it was founded in Kanda in 1630 with the devotion of the second shogun, Tokugawa Hidetada, and until the Meiji Restoration it presented pine, plum and narcissus to the shogun's family every New Year. It moved to Yanaka in 1648 and was rebuilt after each of four great fires, and its main hall and priests' quarters, built in Meiji 30, remain today.
