History and things to know

According to the temple's guide, it was built in Genroku 4 (1691) with Mōri Yoshinari, third lord of the Hagi domain, as its patron founder (kaiki), welcoming Egoku Dōmyō, a native of Hagi, as its founding priest. After Yoshinari's death it became his burial place and the family temple of the Mōri family. In the grounds are four buildings that are national Important Cultural Properties, and the temple, including the Mōri family graves, is designated a historic site.
