History and things to know
According to the official history, it is said to have been founded in Kan'ei 1 (1624) by Shaku Dōkyō, and around 1743 it moved from Ipponmatsu at the top of Daikoku-zaka to its present site. It lost its buildings in the air raids of 1944, and in 1958 an octagonal main hall modeled on the Yumedono of Hōryū-ji was built.
