History and things to know

According to the temple's tradition, it was opened in Tenshō 5 (1577) by 士峯宋山, the 13th abbot of Kasuisai; in the Edo period it received vermilion-seal land and was ranked among the temples serving as guardians (kōken'yaku) of Kasuisai. In the Tōnankai Earthquake of Shōwa 19 all of its halls collapsed, and after using an old main hall moved from another temple, the present complex was built by the head priest and the temple's members.
