History and things to know

According to the official guide, the principal image, Fudō Myōō, was originally enshrined at Sairin-in, a sub-temple of Gyokurin-in in Nakao, Midori Ward, but that temple was abolished with the separation of Shinto and Buddhism. So in Meiji 12, the first chief priest, 覚栄, is said to have built a Fudō Hall at the present site and welcomed the image, and a statue of En no Gyōja was moved here with it.
