History and things to know

According to the shrine's tradition, it began when Utō Chūnagon Yasukata pacified this northern land in the reign of Emperor Ingyō and enshrined the three goddesses as kami protecting Sotogahama. It was rebuilt in Daidō 2 (807) at the time of Sakanoue no Tamuramaro's expedition to Tōhoku, and it was ranked as a prefectural shrine in Meiji 6.
