History and things to know

According to the 箭幹社八幡宮記, a record handed down at the shrine, about 1,300 years ago, when Empress Suiko fell ill, prayers for her recovery were ordered at shrines in various places, and after she recovered, funds for repairs were granted to this shrine as well. Thereafter it was revered as the clan kami of the Oyamada family and as the chief tutelary shrine of the area, but after the fall of the Hōjō clan a period without priests followed.
