History and things to know
According to temple tradition, in Tenpyō 11 a monk appeared in a dream to Emperor Shōmu, who was praying for the healing of Empress Kōmyō's eye disease, and told him to enshrine Yakushi Nyorai at a sacred place in Tachibana District of Musashi Province; Gyōki was sent there to pray, and in the following year the temple buildings were erected. It is regarded as an ancient temple dating back to the late 7th century, and in 2023 it was designated a national cultural property together with the Tachibana government office site (Tachibana Kanga).
