History and things to know
According to temple tradition, it is said to have begun when Gyōki opened a hermitage here in Wadō 1 (708). In Kenji 2 (1276) Ryōgyō Shōnin arranged its buildings and named it Zendō-ji, and in Tenshō 18 (1590) Sakakibara Yasumasa moved the temple and protected it generously. Because of relocation under city planning, it was rebuilt at its present location in Heisei 2.
