History and things to know
According to temple tradition, it began in Daidō 4 (809), when Kōbō Daishi stayed here on his way back from a pilgrimage to Yudonosan and built a hall on 寺家山, south of the present site. In the Muromachi period it moved to the present site under the protection of Suwa Mikawa no Kami, lord of Kozutsumi Castle, and after burning in the Edo period it was rebuilt in Tenpō 11 (1840).
