History and things to know

According to the shrine's tradition, when Minamoto no Yoriyoshi and Yoshiie set up camp here on their way to Ōshū, they welcomed the Hachiman deity and prayed for victory. The shrine was first at Tanaka in Sama village; when it moved to the present site in the Tenbun era, Narita Nagayasu, lord of Oshi Castle, repaired the shrine buildings and made it the general guardian shrine of the castle town. The present shrine buildings were completed in Heisei 1.
