History and things to know
According to the temple's tradition, in 1251, in the Kamakura period, Zen Master Ryōnen Hōmyō, born in Goryeo and regarded as a leading disciple of Zen Master Dōgen, enlarged a Kannon hall and laid the foundations of a Zen temple. Later, in Kyōtoku 2 (1453), Zen Master 南英謙宗 of Kōun-ji restored it at the request of the lord of Shōnai.
