Enshrined kami: Uka no Mitama no Mikoto

History and things to know

According to shrine tradition, it is said to have begun when 景実, elder brother of Kajiwara Kagetoki, left Kamakura in Kenpō 5 (1217) and settled here, and later, together with his adopted son 景永, built a shrine on the summit of Mount Hayama. The shrine buildings were washed away by the great tsunami of Keichō 16, and after relocations it moved to Shukuura. In the early Meiji era it changed its name from Hayama Daigongen to the present shrine name.

Introduced by this site, based on materials from the shrine or temple and public bodies.
