History and things to know

According to shrine tradition, 名方濱宮 in Kibi Province, one of the places Princess Toyosukiirihime no Mikoto visited bearing the Yata no Kagami in the reign of Emperor Sujin, is said to have been 藺引ノ森, which stood in this area, and the shrine is said to have later been moved to its present site halfway up Higashiyama in Hikata. It lost its buildings in the Kishū campaign of Tenshō 13, but it was restored in Keichō 9 together with Myōken-sha and Kumano-sha and was called 里神社. In Meiji 2 it was renamed Isebe Kakimoto Jinja.
