History and things to know

According to the temple's tradition, it began when 多田仲貞, said to be a son of Minamoto no Yoshitsune, became a disciple of Shinran Shōnin, took holy orders and in Kenpo 5 (1217) made his own residence in the Shinga estate into a temple. In Kan'ei 3 (1626) the 10th head priest, 了恵, moved it to its present site in Imai, and its front gate, thought to have been built around Kan'ei 15 (1638), is a designated cultural property of Kashihara City.
