History and things to know
According to shrine tradition, the kami came from Usa by way of Himeshima and 甲手山 in Aki, and settled in Taihō 3 (703) on Kameyama (present-day Irifuneyama) in Miyahara Village. In Meiji 19 the site became land for the navy's Chinjufu (naval district headquarters) and the shrine moved to its present site; it lost its buildings in an air raid in Shōwa 20, but they were rebuilt in Shōwa 30.
