History and things to know

According to the temple's guide, it was built by Furuta Oribe in Keichō 8 (1603), with Kyoō Enni welcomed as its founding priest. Oribe, who practiced Zen under Enni, is said to have made repeated requests until the temple came to be opened. The complete Buddhist canon (issaikyō) collected by the founding priest is still kept in the temple's storehouse.
