History and things to know
According to the official guide, the historical record "Nanto Nenjū Gyōji" states that the temple began when a Shō Kannon was enshrined in a Kannon hall at the wish of Emperor Shōmu. After it fell into ruin in the disturbances of Matsunaga Hisahide, 長順上人 rebuilt the main hall in Eiroku 3 (1560) and installed the present principal image together with two images, Fudō and Aizen.
