History and things to know

According to shrine tradition, it is said to have been founded in Sendagi by Yamato Takeru no Mikoto, and Ōta Dōkan is said to have built a shrine building in the Bunmei era. The fifth shogun, Tsunayoshi, offered the estate where the sixth shogun, Ienobu, was born and had shrine buildings built there, and the kami were moved in Hōei 3 (1706). The main hall, worship hall, karamon, tower gate and other buildings from that time are Important Cultural Properties of Japan.
