History and things to know
According to shrine tradition, in the time of Emperor Jinmu, Ame no Tomi no Mikoto planted hemp and paper mulberry in Awa and established industry there, and as its protection he enshrined his ancestral kami, Ame no Futotama no Mikoto, on this site. Sarutahiko no Ōkami was originally on the peak of Mount Ōasa and is said to have later been enshrined together at the main shrine. In Meiji 13 the main hall and other buildings were built at national expense.
