History and things to know

According to temple tradition, it was built about 700 years ago in the Nanboku-chō period, with Prince Kidera-no-miya Yasuhito as its founding patron and National Teacher Fumyō (Shun'oku Myōha) invited as its founder. In Tenshō 8 (1580) it burned in the fires of war, leaving only the principal image and the mountain gate; in the Genroku period the priest 鳳髄丹 restored it, and the temple relates that the present main hall also dates from that time.
