History and things to know
According to the temple's tradition, it is said to have begun in Wadō 1 (708), when 七郎祐世, a powerful local figure, received a revelation in a dream, climbed the mountain, and enshrined the Jūichimen Kannon image he found there in a thatched hall. Later, through a connection with Saichō, it became a Tendai temple; after falling into ruin in the wars, its main hall, mountain gate and other buildings were rebuilt at the beginning of the Edo period at the wish of Matsudaira Tadanao (Ippaku).
