History and things to know
According to the temple's guide, it began in Kōji 3 (1557) when 神保輝廣, a younger brother of Hōjō Ujitsuna, built a hermitage here and installed his personal image of Jūichimen Kannon. It is said that in Tenshō 19 temple lands were donated by Tokugawa Ieyasu, and because of this history the temple uses the Hōjō family's mitsuuroko (three scales) as its crest.
