History and things to know

According to shrine tradition, it began in the 1st year of Emperor Ankan (534) when a sacred stone appeared, and Nukihoko no Ōkami was enshrined. It is said that later, when Nukihoko no Ōkami moved to Kanra District, the old site was revered as the Saki no Miya (the former shrine), and Futsunushi no Ōkami was welcomed from Katori Jingū. In Ōei 8 (1401) it received a donation of land from Ashikaga Mitsukane.
