History and things to know

According to the temple's tradition, it is said to have begun when, in Tenpyō Jingo 1 (765), the priest Rōben Sōjō prayed for rain here and opened the temple. After declining in the Sengoku period, it was restored by the priest 泉祝 as a Sōtō training monastery. The present main hall was rebuilt in Hōei 3 (1706) and is described as the oldest building in Komae.
