History and things to know

According to shrine tradition, soon after a company of tondenhei settled in Shinkotoni in Meiji 20 (1887), they chose a place where a clear spring welled up as the shrine site and set up a small shrine to the three kami; this is said to be its founding. In Taishō 14 it was ranked as a village shrine (sonsha), and in Shōwa 40 and Heisei 18 ceremonies to move the kami into the main hall were held as the shrine buildings were rebuilt.
