History and things to know
According to the temple's tradition, it was founded at Ichijō Ōmiya in 1243 by imperial wish of Emperor Go-Saga, and it is said to have been granted the name “Shinzenkō-ji” for the sake of people who could not travel all the way to Shinano to worship. After burning in the fires of the Ōnin War, it was moved within the precincts of Sennyū-ji in 1473 by command of Emperor Go-Tsuchimikado.
