History and things to know
According to the temple's tradition, the Inaba clan's family temple, which had been in the castle town of Odawara, was moved to its present site in Kanbun 9 (1669) by Inaba Masanori, who named it Chōkōzan Shōtai-ji. With the priest Tetsugyū invited as its founder, halls were set out across wide grounds, but many of its halls and towers were lost in a fire in the Ansei era at the end of the Edo period.
