History and things to know
According to the official guide, citing the Shinsen Shōjiroku, in the time of Emperor Kōtoku 阿利真公, a descendant of Toyokiirihiko no Mikoto, received the clan title Tarumi no Kimi for sending water by conduit to the drought-stricken capital, and founded this shrine. In the Heian period, as a shrine for rain prayers, it received offerings from the imperial court, and in the Engishiki it was ranked as a Myōjin Taisha.
