History and things to know
According to the temple's tradition, it is said to have been founded in Enryaku 24 (805) by Dengyō Daishi (Saichō) after he returned from Tang China. It is said that when the Daishi threw the tokko and the mirror into the sky in search of a place to spread the teaching, they flew toward Mt. Tachibana, and at this place, where he found them on a great rock, he carved a Yakushi Nyorai and built a thatched hall.
