History and things to know
According to temple tradition, it began in the Ōei era when the priest 了賢無的 built a hermitage in Yamanaka Village in Itabashi, and it later moved to Itabashi-shuku on the Nakasendō. In Kanpō 3 (1743) Tokugawa Yoshimune stopped here during a falconry outing. As road widening reduced the temple grounds, it moved, from Shōwa 46, to its present site in the former Ninomaru of Akatsuka Castle.
