History and things to know

According to the shrine's tradition, when Ōnamuchi no Mikoto and Sukunahikona no Mikoto were traveling in search of medicinal herbs, they saw a wounded crow healing its wounds in the hot water and so found the hot springs of Arima. From around the time of the revival of Arima by Ninsai Shōnin in 1191, Kumano Kusumi no Mikoto was also enshrined under the influence of Kumano faith, and the shrine's name also appears in the Engishiki Jinmyōchō.
