History and things to know

According to the shrine's tradition, this is said to be a place where Yamato Takeru no Mikoto camped during his eastern expedition, and from the tradition of his longing for Ototachibanahime no Mikoto, who threw herself into the sea, it was called Tsumakoi Myōjin. Later Inari was also enshrined and it was also called Tsumakoi Inari; in Manji 3 (1660) it moved to its present site. After burning in the Great Kantō Earthquake and the Great Tokyo Air Raid, it was restored in Shōwa 29.
