History and things to know
According to temple tradition, it originated as a nenbutsu hall set up at Watanabe no Tsu in Settsu by Chōgen Shōnin, who worked to restore Tōdai-ji. It moved to the Tenma temple district during Toyotomi Hideyoshi's reorganization of the castle town, and in Bunroku 1 (1592) 傳誉慶公上人 is said to have founded it. In the Osaka air raids of Shōwa 20 it lost its main hall and original principal image; the main hall was rebuilt in Shōwa 52.
