Ame no Uzume no Mikoto

天宇受売命あめのうずめのみこと

Ame no Uzume no Mikoto is the kami enshrined at Sarume Jinja within the grounds of Sarutahiko Jinja. The shrine introduces her as a kami connected with performers, kagura, the arts and the calming of the spirit, and relates that she is revered by people involved in the performing arts and sports.

Progress in the arts and good bonds

At Sarume Jinja, in addition to progress in the arts, she is also revered as a kami who forms good bonds, because of her work in mediating between the amatsukami (heavenly kami) and the kunitsukami (earthly kami). We introduce the divine virtues handed down by the shrine as one example of prayers to Ame no Uzume no Mikoto.

The dance before Ama no Iwato

It is said that when Amaterasu Ōmikami shut herself away in Ama no Iwato, the heavenly rock cave, Ame no Uzume no Mikoto's dance drew laughter from the kami and became the occasion for leading her back out. At the descent of the heavenly grandson, she also takes the role of facing Sarutahiko Ōkami.
