History and things to know
According to shrine tradition, it was formerly called Hagurogū and began when a divided spirit was welcomed from Hagurosan in Dewa in the Bunmei era. Its buildings were restored in Genroku 16 (1703) and Enkyō 5 (1748). In Kōka 4 (1847) it merged with Hakusan Jinja, moved from the mountaintop to its present site, and changed its name to Haguro Jinja.
